Shining World Compassion Award - Mr. Ram Bahadur Neupane, The Guardian Angel of Bovine Friends

Today, Iet’s travel to Kathmandu, Nepal, to meet a saintly social worker, Mr. Ram Bahadur Neupane. Gentle and kind, he has dedicated nearly a decade of his life to rescue distressed and neglected cows wandering the streets of Nepal. Apart from providing them with food, medical care, and love, he has created a safe haven to shelter them for life. Our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai, upon learning of Mr. Neupane’s noble efforts, gratefully offered: “US$30,000 and the Shining World Compassion Award.” “I believe the Earth is a common home for everyone. Everyone should be allowed to live. We want to provide shelter and protection for everyone, from the elderly fathers, mothers, mentally challenged people, from our brothers and sisters living in the streets, to street dogs and to all the beings. This is our broader vision.”

Veg Philosophy: A Rational Quest for Peaceful Existence

Today, in celebrating November 1, World Vegan Day, we invite you to hear what the great philosophers and ethicists have to say about the life choices concerning food, animal rights, and the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. "To affirm life is to deepen, to make more inward, and to exalt the will-to-live. At the same time, the man who has become a thinking being feels a compulsion to give to every will-to-live the same reverence for life that he gives to his own." "That a man was not born a carnivorous animal but born to live on the fruits and herbs that the earth grows…. The basis of my vegetarianism is not physical, but moral."

His Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali: The Peacemaker Politician of Ethiopia, Part 1 of 2

His Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, a Shining World Leadership Award for Peace Laureate, is the fourth Prime Minister of Ethiopia. Through his leadership, His Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed has taken significant strides towards advancing peace to his fellow citizens and in the African continent. For his work to restore harmony with Eritrea, he was awarded the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize. “I believed peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea was within reach. I was convinced that the imaginary wall separating our two countries for much too long needed to be torn down. And in its place, a bridge of friendship, collaboration and goodwill has to be built to last for ages.” Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali dedicated the award as “a prize given to Africa, given to Ethiopia, and I can imagine how the rest of Africa’s leaders will take it positively, to work on the peace-building process in our continent.” They lived by a truism called “Medemer,” a diction that resonates to the tenet, “I am my brother’s keeper. I am my sister’s keeper.” Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali learned the horrors of conflict early on. His experiences furthered his determination to restore peace in his country and in the African continent. Through his relentless drive and determination, he came into office as Ethiopia’s prime minister in 2018. During his inaugural address, he said: “Justice should be our main principle; love and respect for all human beings ought to be our moral compass.” As a liberal politician, His Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed seeks to nurture a culture of political pluralism. With a vision of the Horn of Africa becoming a treasury of peace and progress, he has already implemented a number of reforms. Under Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali’s premiership, detention centers have closed and all political prisoners and journalists have been released. There is freedom of the press. Opposition leaders are free to engage in political activity of a peaceful nature. The public can take the government to task without fear since the judiciary is governed by the rule of law. A free and fair election is scheduled for 2021.

Remarkable Sharks

Remarkable Sharks

Welcome to our show entitled, “Remarkable Sharks.” Sharks are one of the most misunderstood animals in the world. People just do not realize that we are much friendlier than believed. We are often portrayed as a villain in the movies. Actually, we are quite a unique and fascinating species. We have existed for more than 420 million years, appearing on earth even before the dinosaurs. Also, we are very diverse, with over 500 species, and researchers believe that there may still be undiscovered varieties. The whale shark is the largest fish in the ocean, whose length can reach up to 18 meters. The smallest shark is the dwarf lantern shark, which is around 17-20 centimeters in length, as tiny as a human hand. On average, a shark can swim 32-64 kilometers per hour. We do not have bones in our bodies. Our skeleton is made of cartilage, which makes us light and flexible, and allows us to rise and sink quickly in the ocean. Sharks do not sleep the way that humans do. Some species constantly swim, even while they sleep. They keep their mouths open while moving so that oxygen-rich water can pass through the gills. Anna Breytenbach, a professional telepathic animal communicator, has made contact with the white sharks and received a message from them. She says they are “asking for peaceful coexistence.” We sharks are peaceful beings. When people swim close to our area, we just want to know who they are and feel their energy. We will leave them alone because we sense their friendly vibes. We sharks play a vital role in balancing the ocean’s ecosystem. Without sharks, the population of many ocean species would be reduced. The simple, most important way to help sharks avoid going extinct is by adopting a plant-based diet. Please be a hero for all of us animals.

Bartering - Exchanging Goods, Services and Friendship

Bartering - Exchanging Goods, Services and Friendship

Welcome to our program, “Bartering – Exchanging Goods, Services and Friendship.” Bartering was a system of trade introduced by the Mesopotamia tribes dating back to 6,000 BC. The Phoenicians adopted the system to trade goods with other cities across the oceans. An improved bartering system was developed by the Babylonians and was used to exchange goods for food, tea, spices, and other commodities. With the global adoption of a monetary system, simple bartering of goods and services between people is less practiced, but still exists in some parts of the world. In the Koraput region in India where over 48 indigenous communities live, bartering is still a common practice. Many villages in Malaysia still use bartering as their main means of trade. In recent years, bartering is making a comeback in Hawaii where people see each other as part of the ʻohana, or extended family. With this modern bartering system, people are able to trade services, talent and skills. In Africa, certain countries use bartering to help children get an education. In Nigeria, many schools allow parents to trade in used plastic bottles for their children’s school fees under the RecyclesPay Education Project, a campaign by the African Clean Up Initiatives. The barter system is practiced at an international level between large companies and countries using treaties and trade deals to exchange goods and services. It’s the perfect way for companies to clear obsolete or surplus inventory and achieve zero waste. There are many advantages of bartering. It’s economical and saves resources. Something you no longer use may just be the item someone else has been looking for. The exchange is also more direct, immediate, and personal. It’s an opportunity for interaction between people, a chance to form lasting friendships that are much more valuable. Supreme Master Ching Hai once hinted in a lecture in 1992 that one day, the Earth can even barter with beings from other planets…

Shining World Protection Award Recipient: Redefine Meat – Advancing Vegan Food Technology, Part 1 of 2

Today, we honor Redefine Meat, an Israel-based start-up company which utilizes 3D printing technology to produce realistic plant-based steaks. The company’s revolutionary approach brings alternative meat to a whole new level. Made from natural, sustainable sources, their cruelty-free steaks closely replicate the appearance, texture and flavor of animal meat. Mr. Eshchar Ben-Shitrit, founder and CEO of Redefine Meat, started his company with a vision to make a positive change in the world. “The vision of the company is to replace meat. So it’s not bringing 3D printing to people’s home. Because if you look at an industry that has a problem, the food industry has many problems. What’s the biggest problem for the food industry, for the world? Animal as a source for food. What’s the biggest issue within? That is beef. So we want to have a platform that solves the problem that we need beef to make steaks. People want to buy meat, so we are giving them meat. We’re not giving them dead animals. If the meat can come from a different source, everybody will be happy to serve.” “But unfortunately or fortunately, most people in the world did not decide to stop eating meat. They still eat meat every day. And this is the market that we need to educate. But we need to serve them a different kind of meat.” With great mainstream appeal, Redefine Meat is cruelty-free, healthier, has 95% less environmental impact, and will be more affordable than animal meat when it reaches the market. “We have no cholesterol, and this is easy. When you look at an animal, when you slaughter an animal, people don’t understand that you have food pathogens that exist in a cow, and it’s almost impossible not to have them go to your meat. In our case, we don’t have any of these pathogens.” “But in April this year, we served over 200 dishes as meat to people that didn’t know that it’s meat, in restaurants and in a hotel.” For their outstanding innovation, Redefine Meat won the 2018 Food Accelerator Network Program competition. “So it was sort of, the starting point of us not only being a technology company, but a part of this food technology movement. Smarter companies in the meat industry, they embrace this innovation. So instead of saying, ‘What you’re doing is not meat, I am, I’m doing meat for 500 years, it’s our tradition.’ He says, ‘I have a know-how on how to get meat to chefs, what chefs want.’ You have a new kind of meat, let’s collaborate. Instead of competing, let’s collaborate.”

Reverend Pastor Robert Munro (vegan) of The Humanitarian Church

Reverend Pastor Robert Munro, or as he likes to be called, Pastor Rob, is the founder of The Saint Francis of Assisi Parish of The Humanitarian Church – a whole food, plant-based vegan house of worship in Erieville, New York, USA. Pastor Rob preaches a vegan sermon there every Sunday. The Humanitarian Church’s mission is “To introduce the Whole Food Plant Based Diet to impoverished, unhealthy communities throughout the world so as to provide freedom from illness… and cease the consumption of animal products so as to honor the commandment, ‘THOU SHALT NOT KILL’.” In 2010, at the age of 50, Pastor Rob’s life changed when he suffered his third stroke. His left side was paralyzed, his left eye was blind, and he was unable to talk or walk. The doctors gave him six months to live. Twenty-six days after becoming vegan, the paralysis on his left side was gone, his vision returned, and he stopped slurring and drooling. Not only did he fully recover, but he also became healthier than ever. Two years after becoming vegan, he experienced a profound spiritual moment, realizing that animal flesh in the body blocks the connection to God. “So, I decided to give everything to the church, live on minimal things, just (vegan) food. Because I need 5,000 lifetimes to make up for the 5,000 animals that died for me to eat them. I can't create life. So the best I can do is give my life in the service of God.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present Reverend Pastor Robert Munro with the Shining World Compassion Award, along with a humble loving gift of US$10,000 to support your vegan Humanitarian Church. Lots of love, praises and prayers for your mission’s success, in God’s mercy.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Surf Coast Wildlife Shelters Group

Today, we are travelling to Victoria, Australia, to meet Tina Lawrence, the President of Surf Coast Wildlife Shelters Group, a remarkable non-profit organization dedicated to helping wildlife animals. Their mission statement is: “To protect, rescue and rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife and to release these animals and birds back into their own habitat.” “Ten years ago, myself and my family moved down to the Surf Coast. We realised that there were very few people who were able to rescue and care for animals.” “There were almost no people along the Surf Coast doing rehabilitation and taking these animals into care to care for them. So that was the point of which I decided to look for a way in which to become more involved.” “The set up for caring is very involved. So you have to have a range of equipment, foods and other things to be able to do this properly.” “Every single species of our wildlife is critical and performing an essential function in our ecosystems. It’s critical that we protect them, in order to protect our ecosystems and biodiversity.” Our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present Tina Lawrence and Surf Coast Wildlife Shelters Group the Shining World Compassion Award plus US$15,000 with joy, gratitude.” “We are very, very grateful to be acknowledged by the Supreme Master. The work that you are doing in promoting compassion and supporting groups like ours is absolutely wonderful.” After receiving a report about the award presentation, Supreme Master Ching Hai sent “another US$20,000 to lovingly further this noble engagement. With all love in God's forever embrace.”

Successful Refugees and Immigrants Leading the Way, Part 2: Supermodel Alek Wek

Today, we will introduce another outstanding refugee, Alek Wek, who left Sudan as a teenager and is now regarded as one of the world’s foremost supermodels. Compassionate in nature, she is also a humanitarian activist. Alek was born in what is now South Sudan on April 16, 1977, and is the seventh of nine children. To avoid the civil conflict, Ms. Wek and her younger sister were forced to flee to London, UK, in 1991. In 1995, four years after moving to England, Ms. Wek was discovered at an outdoor market in the London suburb of Crystal Palace by a scout for the famous agency, Models 1. Ms. Wek was also named “Model of the Year” by MTV in 1997. In addition to Elle magazine, Ms. Wek also appeared on the cover of many other notable publications, such as Glamour, Cosmopolitan, i-D, Forbes Magazine Africa, and Ebony. Ms. Wek’s influence goes far beyond the fashion arena. The supermodel is also a humanitarian activist and a prominent philanthropist. She has been a missionary for World Vision’s program to end HIV/AIDS, an ambassador for “Doctors Without Borders” and the U.S. Committee for Refugees Advisory Council’s advisory board member on issues related to Sudan. On June 17, 2013, she was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador by the UNHCR. She said: “I believe that true beauty comes from inside you and that always shows through.” As a former refugee, Alek Wek has proven to us that regardless of adversity, anything is possible. She has also demonstrated that refugees can make great contributions to the countries they emigrate to and leave a lasting, positive mark on our world.

Vladimir Megre & “The Ringing Cedars of Russia,” Part 1 of 2

Today, we will be exploring the life and vision of Vladimir Megre, who won the Gusi Peace Prize in 2011 and has been listed by the Watkins “Mind Body Spirit” magazine as one of “100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People.” The Ukrainian-born Russian author and entrepreneur is known for his best-selling chronicle series entitled “The Ringing Cedars of Russia.” 02:59)Vladimir Megre presents Anastasia, a reclusive woman of the Siberian forest with timeless wisdom encompassing life, nature, and the universe. The books have inspired an ever-expanding group of adherents that explore a way of life in tune with the universal principles of balance and harmony. These readers have dedicated themselves to understanding the spiritual relationship between themselves and nature. On his next expedition up the river, he hoped more than anything to find out more about the ringing cedars phenomenon. In his now famous book “Anastasia,” Vladimir Megre describes the amazing meeting with a hermit woman who agrees to show him the prized healing cones of the ringing cedars. This is the incredible beginning of the introduction to Anastasia’s wisdom, which becomes the central thread of “The Ringing Cedars of Russia” series. The book, “Anastasia,” is not only a personal odyssey, but a manifesto in pure natural living, proposing a scenario in which humanity returns to a “Garden of Eden” state by disentangling itself from the ineffective ways of the material world. Anastasia explains that only by living in accordance with harmonious universal principles can humanity finally achieve lasting peace and prosperity. Her wisdom, through Vladimir Megre’s books, has inspired countless people to return to a self-sufficient lifestyle through small scale-farming of plant-based produce that is wholistic, healthy, and also reconnects people with nature. Anastasia has an exceptional way of life, living totally within nature, with just a few items of clothing and dwelling in harmony with all of the forest inhabitants. Lovingly, the squirrels not only provide her with a supply of cedar nuts, but also collect berries and mushrooms for her to eat. Anastasia’s state of total purity attunes her with the natural elements, enabling tremendous natural powers that leave Vladimir at times overwhelmed…

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Mrs. Gia Trần – Spreading Happiness Through Benevolent Deeds

We are in the presence of an extraordinary person who braved all the weather conditions there are to devote part of her day to doing a task that is pure devotion for others. Immigrating to Vancouver, Canada in 1980 from Âu Lạc (Vietnam) as a single mother of four young children, Mrs. Trần spent a decade supporting her children by cleaning apartments and motels. Wanting also to help the needy and contribute to her community, she started collecting cans and bottles as a way to raise funds. Every day for over 21 years, Mrs. Gia Trần, has dedicated herself to scouring the streets of Canada, collecting bottles and cans for up to ten hours a day. These are then cashed in for as low as five cents a bottle. Rather than keeping her earnings herself, she donates most of it to the needy and various charities. Over the decades it is estimated that Mrs. Trần has contributed more than $15,000 to the B.C. Cancer Foundation alone, where she visits daily. Known as the angel of East Hastings, Mrs. Trần brings a smile to everyone’s face with her pure-hearted cheerfulness. “I want to help people. I love people. I have money; I help cancer [patients]; I help big hospitals; I help the children’s hospital. I want to help [homeless] people.” Deeply touched by her altruistic deeds, Supreme Master Ching Hai presented Mrs. Gia Trần the Shining World Compassion Award, and a loving contribution of USD $20,000. “Dear Ms. Trần, It is with much admiration and gratitude that we present to you the Shining World Compassion Award for your timeless devotion to help cancer victims. This Award is presented in recognition of your outstanding humanitarian efforts to simultaneously help clean our environment and provide assistance to patients in need."

Better Understanding Animals: Marie-Noëlle Baroni and Telepathic Animal Communicator Laila del Monte (vegetarian), Part 3 of 3

Better Understanding Animals: Marie-Noëlle Baroni and Telepathic Animal Communicator Laila del Monte (vegetarian), Part 3 of 3

Can different animal species communicate with each other? If so, how do they do it? “It’s specifically intangible for us humans because we can only communicate through our senses. But if I could explain it the best possible way, I would say that it is like a vibration that is emitted. And in this vibration, there is a whole language inside – a language of thoughts, a language of emotions, a language of being and a language of sensations within this vibration. Let me give an example. Once, my dog came to get me – I thought: ‘what does she want?’ And I followed her, and there was a turtledove that was injured. So I took the turtledove, I tried to save her, etc. And in the night, my dog came to wake me up. She came, she pulled me, she practically pulled me by the shirt, and she took me there – the turtledove was dead. How did she know? She was in the house. It’s a vibration that contains everything, and that we have a great deal of trouble picking up because we put language above all else. But it’s already a language, and it’s very intangible, but it’s something that is emitted between all animals. And that they perceive.” What hope is there for getting closer human-animal relationships in the future? Laila and Marie-Noëlle believe we must start with the children and bring them in contact with our animal friends. “It’s very, very important to find this language, to find this connection again. Because if we do not find it, we are not going to open up this compassion. And for me, it is the only way to save this planet.” “What I would like to propose is to open up the knowledge to children, of course. To open this knowledge, even a little bit, but in very small classes.” “They must have direct experience with animals. Because they don’t correlate what’s on their plate – that it’s an animal – they don’t correlate with the cruelty that’s going on. They cannot understand all that. They need to know; they have to be close to the animal to understand them, to feel them, and to be able to truly connect with the animal.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue

Fifty miles (80 km) northwest of New York City, USA, lie the 230-acre (93 hectare) lush and charming Skylands Animal Sanctuary & Rescue, home to more than a hundred farm animal friends. The sanctuary founder, Mike Stura, used to be a truck driver and found new meaning in life by providing rescued animals a loving home. Over a year ago, Brianna, a pregnant cow courageously kicked down the door of a moving truck to escape a cruel fate. A call from the police at the scene woke up Mike and he immediately rushed to collect her. At the safety of the sanctuary two days later, Brianna gave birth to a healthy baby girl calf, Winter. Upon learning of this news, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai tearfully offered the Shining World Compassion Award to Mike Stura and Skylands Sanctuary, “plus a humble US$15,000 contribution, with all love and gratitude in God’s mercy.” “Dear Mike, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to you the “Shining World Compassion Award” for the love and dedication shown towards animals, providing ‘a place for them, a place for hope’. You are nurturing kindness within the community and creating a brighter future for all of Earth’s co-inhabitants. We humbly present this Award in recognition of the haven you have provided, rescuing, sheltering and ensuring our precious animal friends have a forever home.” “For benevolently striving for a loving world for all beings, and for your gentleness and untiring kindness, we hereby applaud and celebrate the great compassionate deeds of Mike Stura. May God bless and protect you and Brianna’s family, as well as the kind police involved. With Great Honor, Love and Blessings in God’s Grace Supreme Master Ching Hai” “This is very, very nice. It's very cool. Thank you, Supreme Master. I don't know what to say. I'm touched. I’m moved. I'll try to do my best. Thank you for choosing us to support. I appreciate it tremendously and I appreciate the work that you do, to spread compassion and the word of a vegan lifestyle to the world. It's fantastic! I really thank you very much. Thank you.”

Unsung Heroes - New South Wales Rural Fire Service’s Volunteer Firefighters

Bushfires are widespread and frequent disasters in Australia. The Australian continent's climate has been slowly drying for millions of years, creating an environment more likely to catch fire. In recent years, global climate change has made Australia hotter and dryer, intensifying the conflagrations even further. The New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is the primary organization that copes with bushfires in the Australian state of New South Wales and the largest volunteer-based firefighting agency in the world. Starting from a small fire brigade in the town of Berrigan in 1896, currently, NSW RFS has over 72,000 volunteer firefighters and supporters, and 900-plus paid staff. In addition to bush and grass fire fighting missions, the organization also provides bushfire information, district-level bushfire risk management and comprehensive volunteer training. The 2019-20 Australian bushfire season, known as the “Black Summer,” is unprecedented in many ways. Record high temperatures, severe drought and strong winds all contributed to the fire weather. It was the worst bushfire season to date for the state. During this period, thousands of NSW RFS volunteers rolled up their sleeves and engaged in firefighting work without hesitation, putting their lives at risk to protect their communities. Many of them sacrificed holidays or took leave from their jobs or closed their businesses to extinguish fires without pay. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present the New South Wales Rural Fire Service with the Shining World Hero Award, with a humble loving gift of US$10,000 towards furthering the vital work of your life-protecting agency. Lots of love and praises to all the volunteers and prayers for your safety, in God’s mercy.”

SOS Mediterranean: Guardian Angel of the Sea

On today’s program “SOS Mediterranean: Guardian Angel of the Sea,” it is our honor to interview Fabienne Lassalle, the Deputy Executive Director of SOS Mediterranean-France, about her organization’s praiseworthy work on behalf of those seeking a better and safer life in new lands. SOS Mediterranean is a humanitarian maritime association established by a group of European citizens from various professional backgrounds, including seafaring, relief assistance, and healthcare. It provides aid to people in distress in international waters, particularly to refugees fleeing to Europe via the central Mediterranean Sea. The life-saving mission in international waters is not an easy task. It counts on the joint efforts of dedicated experts from different professional backgrounds and non-governmental organizations. SOS Mediterranean has four national associations located in Germany, Italy, France, and Switzerland, respectively. It also partners with humanitarian medical organization Doctors Without Borders that has benevolently funded the rescue ship’s monthly costs and supplied medical equipment onboard since 2016. Between February 2016 and October 2018, SOS Mediterranean operated the Aquarius and assisted 29,523 people. And since August 2019, when the Ocean Viking took over, more than 1,200 people have been saved from drowning. Why do people risk their lives to relocate somewhere thousands of kilometers away from their homes? Fabienne Lassalle provides her observations. “While crossing in such surreal and dangerous conditions in this sea, it’s not even hope anymore, that they are in such difficult conditions. They have no other choice. It’s no longer even a desire to join Europe, it’s just a desire to flee. So, this we can mobilize to do. I hope to find solutions to change things and give these people another future.” We profoundly thank you, SOS Mediterranean, for your selfless humanitarian actions on behalf of people in distress at sea. May Heaven’s love shine on you and on all partners as well as the migrants and displaced persons you assist. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present SOS Mediterranean with the Shining World Compassion Award, plus a US$20,000 loving contribution to humbly support its benevolent, lives-saving work, with much love, gratitude and respect. May all involved be immensely blessed, in God’s grace and mercy.”

The Reverend Dr. Albert Schweitzer (vegetarian): The Peaceful Genius, Part 2 of 2

As we learned in Part 1, the Reverend Dr. Albert Schweitzer and his wife, Helene Bresslau Schweitzer, established a hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon. The region had been struck by numerous tropical maladies, and the people were living in meager conditions with insufficient healthcare. During their first nine months, the Schweitzer's treated over 2,000 patients. While traveling by boat on the Ogooué River to visit a patient, a profound phrase occurred to Dr. Albert Schweitzer: “Reverence for Life.” This became Dr. Schweitzer's “unifying term for a concept of ethics.” Dr. Albert Schweitzer became a vegetarian and refused to kill any living thing, including insects. He said: “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.” After going back to Europe and staying there for several years, Dr. Albert Schweitzer returned to Lambaréné in 1924 to rebuild the hospital on a new site. Treatment was always free of charge. The entire project was financed with the money Dr. Schweitzer earned himself by regularly giving benefit concerts and lectures on culture and ethics in Europe, as well as with donations that came to him from across the world. From the early 1950s onward, Dr. Schweitzer worked tirelessly to abolish nuclear weapons, adding his voice to the likes of fellow Nobel Laureate and vegetarian, Dr. Albert Einstein. In 1952, Dr. Albert Schweizer was awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for his philosophy of “Reverence for Life.” Dr. Schweitzer used the Nobel Prize money of approximately US$33,000 to help build the much-needed leprosarium at Lambaréné for his 250 leprosy patients. The Reverend Albert Schweitzer left this world on September 4, 1965, at the age of 90. His daughter, Rhena, and his medical associates continued developing the Albert Schweitzer Hospital, modernizing the facilities with about 70 buildings, and attracting dedicated and talented medical staff from around the world.

Better Understanding Animals: Marie-Noëlle Baroni and Telepathic Animal Communicator Laila del Monte (vegetarian), Part 1 of 3

It will feature excerpts from our interview with the gifted American communicator Ms. del Monte and Ms. Baroni, who rescues animals and coaches some of them for filmmakers who wish to feature them in their movies. Laila del Monte has been communicating with animals since she was a child. At first, she thought it was something everyone could do. When she realized that her ability was a unique talent, she cultivated it and chose to dedicate her life to helping animals of all kinds. Marie-Noëlle Baroni, from France turned a natural affinity with animals into a special service for the motion-picture industry. The makers of “The Fox and the Child” as well as “Seasons” enlisted her to train the starring animals. She lives on her own educational farm, where visitors can meet some non-human movie stars and learn about caring for animals. “My name is Laila del Monte, and I communicate with animals. And so it’s a long journey of 25 years to transmit information about animal consciousness to people through teachings, seminars all over the world. There are people like Marie-Noëlle who work daily with animals. They establish a kind of silence-connection – I don’t really know what to call it. There is an internal silence and a connection that is established with the animal from day to day.” “But the extraordinary thing is that everybody has this ability. Everybody, from the youngest to the oldest, everybody has this. It’s like all learning.” “They teach us all the time, but we are the ones who have to learn. We have a responsibility to know them, to know their minds and to know how they work. They exist, they are there, and it is we who destroy their environment, and we are the ones who make all the mistakes. So our responsibility is to approach and understand them. And by understanding their consciousness, that’s how we can transform a little bit the things that are happening on our planet.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Faithful Friends Animal Society

Today, our spotlight is on Faithful Friends Animal Society, a private, non-profit animal welfare organization with a no-kill shelter in Delaware, USA. Founded 20 years ago, the organization has saved countless dogs, cats and other animals. Founder and executive director, Ms. Jane Pierantozzi, shared some of their goals and achievements in an exclusive interview with us. “We’ve dramatically reduced the killing. We provide medical care. We also have a foster care system. If there are special needs and they don’t get adopted, they go into foster homes. And we also have ways to help people keep their pets in their homes. We also have a pet lifeline to help give people advice when they’re looking for resources for strays that they found. We have over 400 volunteers working side by side with about 70 employees.” Following a “No Kill” philosophy, the organization believes in treating every animal as an individual with dignity and respect. Hearing of their noble work in helping our precious co-inhabitants, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “thankfully present Faithful Friends Animal Society the Shining World Compassion Award plus a humble contribution of US$15,000 towards this noble society.” On June 12, 2019, our Association members joyfully presented the award and gifts to Ms. Jane Pierantozzi and her team at Faithful Friends Animal Society. “Dear Ms. Pierantozzi, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to Faithful Friends Animal Society the ‘Shining World Compassion Award’ for nurturing kindness towards and protecting animals. This Award is presented in recognition of the shelter’s noble advocacy to end euthanasia, its commitment to shelter and lovingly care for animals. Your exemplary efforts herald a new era of empathy and harmonious co-existence with our precious animal friends.” Ms. Jane shared with us these final thoughts before we parted ways. “I just want to thank You again, the Supreme Master and Your organization for Your love of animals and for Your gracious award today and the grant award that will help us with our mission to care for the animals. Also we’d just encourage other animal shelters across the world that care for dogs and cats to also open their heart to care for all animals and to embrace the plant-based diet, which we are promoting here.”

Building a Peaceful Planet for All Beings - Youth Climate Movement Torchbearers Climate NOW & the Sunrise Movement, Part 4 of 4

Dear viewers, we are at a critical crossroads in our history. Let us all join hands to build a prosperous and sustainable future for all beings. “I dream that our beautiful planet will not be destroyed. It took billions, billions, trillions of years to produce this planet and it’s so beautiful, so wonderful. I dream that it will continue, but in peace, beauty and love.” According to the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, the signs of climate change are now prevalent across the globe. Glaciers have shrunk, the sea level has risen, and heat waves have intensified. Scientists have been warning us about the effects of global warming for decades. Thus, simply by switching to a plant-based diet that our bodies are naturally designed for, we can turn the tide against climate change and the pandemic, as well as prevent any future outbreaks. Supreme Master Ching Hai is fully aware that the consumption of animal products is deeply ingrained in many cultures. Moreover, meat and dairy have been discovered to contain natural substances, which can have an addictive effect on the body, making it difficult for some people to transition away from consuming them. To overcome these obstacles, She suggests all hands on deck. This means individual resolve, community support, media help, and government legislation. “It has to start from the government and the media, because they are the most powerful tools to spread information to the people at large.” We have to face the truth that the ONLY way for humans to continue living on Earth is to make peace with our co-inhabitants. So, will the world adopt strong measures like the vegan law in time to save humankind and other inhabitants on Earth? A lot may ride on our youth, who are bravely stepping up to the plate to demand of our leaders the kind of urgent action our planet so desperately needs. We are profoundly grateful to Supreme Master Ching Hai for Her wisdom and divinely-inspired guidance. We are also deeply appreciative of the San Francisco Vegetarian Society for its tireless efforts for the vegan cause and for granting us access to the discussion panel footage. We sincerely thank Sarah, Remus, Kate, and all the climate activists of the world who sacrifice their time, schoolwork, and earnings to work for a better tomorrow for all Earthlings. May Heavens bless and protect you and your loved ones forever.

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: The Noble Endeavors of Mercy for Animals, Part 1 of 2

Today, we are delighted to present a remarkable organization that has been working tirelessly for the last few decades to help inspire compassion and end animal cruelty. Founded by Mr. Milo Runkle in 1999, Mercy for Animals (MFA) is a leading international non-profit organization dedicated to protecting our precious animal friends. After witnessing the abuse of a farm animal for a high school agricultural project near his hometown in Ohio, USA, Mr. Runkle formed Mercy for Animals with the goal of ending the horrendous cruelty and promoting compassionate food choices and animal-free alternatives. This noble organization actively investigates the harsh realities hidden behind factory farm walls and aims to improve state-level policies and legislation for farm animal protection. Mark Devries, manager of special projects and drone investigation at Mercy for Animals and director of Speciesism: The Movie, explains why animals are not food, and why Mercy for Animals spreads the message of love and compassion. “Non-human animals are sentient, complex individuals with deep social and emotional lives, like ourselves. We share the very same brain structures and the very same collections of neuro-chemicals that function the same way, that allow for joy and sorrow and fear and anger, positive and negative.” Mercy for Animals believes that the greatest cruelty and injustice of our time concerns food production by the farm animal industry. This is the important Truth that the organization strives to share with the world. Posted online and via social media, Mercy for Animals’ undercover investigations have been especially effective in bringing that truth to the public. “It's our habits and the attitudes that we have been brought up with, that stop us from seeing something that's actually very clear: that causing harm, causing suffering which we’re all already opposed to, is something that we do when we support industrial animal agriculture, that causes suffering to billions of animals who are just as sentient as you and I are.” Witnessing the suffering of farm animals is a powerful tool of change in terms of both inner consciousness and outer social norms. Mark Devries shared with us his own experience of transformation sparked by directing Speciesism: The Movie, the 2013 award-winning documentary on industrial factory farming. “I actually became vegan when I was working on my first documentary ‘Speciesism: The movie.’ And that is when I started realizing that this is a fundamental issue of ethics and justice. And I could no longer come up with a defense that wasn't refuted for maintaining my current view of non-human animals and for maintaining my current practices. And it seemed to touch people very deeply and impact them very profoundly.”
