As temperatures rise, more and more young people, concerned about their futures, are participating in climate change rallies. Some are even devoting their lives to stopping global warming. On today’s program, we’ll meet two of these inspiring young people.

One courageous youth is Ou Hongyi (vegan), a Shining World Heroine Award recipient and activist from China. When Ou Hongyi was 16, she heard about a highly successful activism movement begun by a European youth. Ou Hongyi then started staging solitary rallies in her country. However, despite her many challenges, Ou Hongyi has not given up. Instead, she has courageously and tirelessly continued with her work. Ou Hongyi believes that adults, particularly government leaders, must take responsibility for the current state of the world and take steps to repair the damage they have caused. “We now stand at a very critical point in history. (…) And there’s a chance that humans would become extinct in this century. So now, it’s not enough for us to just care about this issue. We must take practical action and start trying a vegetarian diet today.”

Another young heroine is Genesis Butler (vegan), a Shining World Compassion Award recipient, a 16-year-old animal-people rights and climate change activist from the United States. In 2020, Genesis founded Youth Climate Save (YCS), a youth-led organization that addresses the link between raising animal-people livestock and global warming. Genesis also started her own YouTube channel where she promotes the vegan lifestyle. And, of course, she participates in climate change rallies.

Our Most Gracious Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has repeatedly reminded us about the dangers of global warming, especially its dire consequences for future generations. She explains that the only solution is a rapid, worldwide shift to the vegan lifestyle. “If any parents really love their children and their grandchildren, they should be vegan by now. That’s the fastest way.”
