Guanacos and vicunas are the wild camelids of South America. Guanacos are experts at communicating through body language. After they haven’t seen each other for some time, they greet one another by standing nose to nose and waggling their tails horizontally or in a U-shape. The vicuna is the national animal of Peru and part of the Peruvian coat of arms.
