An electronic message on the billboard stating, “Argentina Court Rules Fish Have Rights! Don’t Eat ‘Em,” was recently displayed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The action followed a landmark ruling by a Buenos Aires, Argentina court involving two goldfish-people, Fede and Magui, who had been kept in a small tank outside a sushi restaurant. Exposed to direct sunlight, traffic noise, and constant tapping on their tank, the court ruled the conditions violated Argentina’s animal-people cruelty law. The court ordered the fish-persons to be relocated to a spacious aquarium under the care of an aquatic specialist and recognized them as sentient beings and legal “subjects of law” rather than property. PETA hopes the decision will inspire more people to recognize fish-citizens as feeling individuals and choose compassionate, vegan alternatives.

PETA is a Shining World Compassion Award recipient. Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has previously donated US$165,000 to support PETA and its affiliates’ work.

Many thanks, Buenos Aires court, PETA, and all advocates. In Divine wisdom, may all fish-people live in peace, freedom, and safety.

Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan): “Tearfully present the Shining World Leadership Award for Right-Justice to the honorable Court No. 12 of the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, with high esteem, praise, and much Love for its compassionate ruling recognizing the gentle fish-people Fede and Magui as sentient beings with feelings, dignity, and the right to be protected. May this merciful judgment awaken the whole world to recognize all fish-people as the thinking, loving individuals they truly are. In GOD’s eternal Grace, may Heaven forever shield and bless you and your loved ones.”
