In this episode, Master explains that we all come from the Supreme Source and that our inner wisdom is awakened at the time of initiation. She also recommends veganism for beneficial spiritual practice, as it minimizes the killing karma, keeps our body pure, thus elevates spiritual progress, and is an expression of our love for all beings.

(So You’re not asking for people to give up all of their worldly goods, but rather to bring sincere intention into whatever it is they’re doing?) Right, right. Right. We have to be productive and supportive also of this world, as well as of spirit. We have to develop in all ways, not only the spiritual aspect.

(Thank You. Because we are multi-dimensional, aren’t we?) Yeah, multi-dimensional. (Yes.) Because we have to be perfect, like, “Be ye therefore perfect as your Father in Heaven is perfect.” And a perfect person cannot just sit cross-legged somewhere in the cave and do nothing, or change his life, or not do the job that he’s doing. He has to be responsible as well.

(Well, once again, Master, speaking of sitting cross-legged in a cave, can You say a little bit in detail about what You recommend in terms of a style, a way of meditation?) Right. Well, there’s no need for any style. The most important thing is that your inner wisdom is opened, and that will be done at the time of initiation. We use this, the ability to understand, in order to understand all these things that happen around us, and to understand the Universe, and to understand ourselves. It’s not the position that’s important, it’s the concentration.

Jared: Well, welcome back. This is Radio 2000 Seeing Beyond. We hope that we’re brightening up your Friday and that we’re offering you some good news instead of the rest of the news that we’re used to getting so much of, that tends to be a kind of a dark cloud, I would say, rather than a bright light. And we’re hoping that we’re bringing some sunshine and some light into your life as we, this morning, continue our talk with Supreme Master Ching Hai, who is calling from Southern California. She is, I’d say, an amazing Woman. I don’t know how [else] to describe [Her]. You’ve had some difficulty, Master, describing certain things. I have some difficulty describing You, except to say I’m really glad that You’re appearing in the female form.

I think that’s very important in our lives in the world today, to hear from a powerful spiritual Woman. We have so many men running around saying all kinds of things, and I’m glad that You’re here this morning.

Master: Thank you. I’m glad too. I’m glad you gave me this honor and opportunity.

(You have referred, Master, several times to the word “initiation.”) Yeah. (I’m wondering if You would describe what You’re referring to. I know what the word means, but what do You strictly mean?) Yes, yes.

Initiation actually is just a word for the opening of the Spirit. You see, we are clouded with many kinds of obstacles, invisibly as well as visibly. So the so-called initiation is a process of opening the gate of wisdom, letting it flow into this world, and then bless the world as well as ourselves, the so-called self. But the True Self is always in Glory and Wisdom. There’s no need for blessings for that. What I mean is the way we understand things, this understanding will, in turn, bless the world in which we live to make it brighter.

(So Master, are You saying then that the initiation is one where You bless the person and in some way that opens them up for new possibilities?) Right. Actually, we are the greatest in the Universe, all of us. We came from the greatest Source; therefore, we must be the greatest. We can’t just come from trees or rocks, or anything that we think of. So, anyhow, the process of initiation is to immediately kind of shock us back into this highest position, which we have forgotten all along because we’ve been too busy with daily mundane activities.

(I love that: “Shock us back into that higher position.”) Highest position. (Highest!) Yes.

Jared: Well, Master, I know that the Sufi Masters often say that what we’re in this life to do is to remember who we are. (True.) And it sounds like that’s what You’re saying, too. (Yes, yeah, that’s it.) Speaking of this clouded existence, which is our illusion, I know a teacher of mine once said that, yes, a good deal of life here is Maya or an illusion, but he said it’s a very real illusion too. We get very bound up in it. (True.) What do You think are the greatest obstacles that a spiritual seeker faces in his or her path?

Master: Well, the more we know, the less we understand. (I love that.) (Is that a positive direction, do You think, maybe?) Because we accumulate too much of the mundane knowledge. That’s why we do not understand the True Wisdom. So this is our clouded existence. We are too proud of our PhD or whatever knowledge we gained from this mundane world, and we forgot that we are so much greater than that. Actually, when we are too proud, that means we look down upon ourselves, because we are greater than that. And, of course, knowledge from this world doesn’t obstruct the spiritual wisdom, but then if we… it depends, if we cling to that, then we’re in trouble.

(It sounds as though You’re saying if we make of the knowledge, the head knowledge, that we go to school to get those PhDs, if we make a God out of it,) Right. (then we go to sleep.) Right. Well, you know everything.

(Well, maybe I’m in trouble here.) (Jared, I know why. It’s because you’re just a PhD candidate. If you’ve gotten a PhD, you’d be in trouble.) (Oh, right. Yes. Maybe that’s it.) Oh, he does? (Yes.) Well, congratulations. (Well, I think I’m forever a candidate, I don’t think… Anyway.) (He’s becoming, which is probably what we all are really.)

No, I do not mean to look down upon these degrees. What I mean, just to make a solid example that if we cling too much to these things, then we forget the True Self, that’s all. (Yes, absolutely.)

Jared: Well, it reminds me of the story in the Bible, the rich young ruler coming to Jesus and saying, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” And He nailed him right on what he was holding onto. He said, “You have to give up everything?” He didn’t want to do that, I don’t think. (Right.)

Mike, a man calling in from Berkeley, wants to know, how does a Master receive the title “Supreme Master”?

Master: Oh, I see. Well, I also don’t know how. (You woke up one morning, and somebody said that to You, right?) Yes, well, or sometimes the disciples, the so-called disciples, will recognize the height of the so-called Master. So they call the Master with many adorable names. For example, Christ is also a title. Buddha is also a title (Yes.) which was accredited to the Masters at that time. Well, I don’t feel that Supreme, but I know for sure that we came from the Supreme Source. That I can only tell you.

Jared: We came from the Supreme Source. (Yes, all of us.) Yes. (Yes.) That’s a meditation in itself, isn’t it? To keep repeating that. “I came from the Supreme Source.”

Master: Well, it’s not the repeating; it’s just a conviction that we know from self-realization. (Right.) Yes. (That’s it.)

Bonnie: You know what I’m noticing about You, Master, is that You have such a warm and gentle sense of humor. (Oh, really?) Yes. Talk a little bit about the importance of humor in our lives.

Master: Well, it comes alone. It comes alone when you are looking at things in the light way, and you know where you come from. And when you’re very confident within yourself, then you have humor. (Alright.) It’s a different degree, of course, but… (Yes.) There’s nothing important anymore. Nothing is that important anymore that you have to give up your positive way of thinking. (Nothing is so important that you need to give up your sense of humor.) Yes, right.

(We have a caller, Alex, calling from San Jose, who asks, “What does the Master think of the teaching of non-marriage?”) (Non-marriage. I guess he means not being married and of [veganism].)

Master: OK. No, I recommend veganism, but not non-marriage. Because we are in this physical life, and we should go on with whatever is demanded of us, so long as that doesn’t harm our neighbor. Married life is good for many people. I also don’t say people should all get married. It depends on what they prefer to do. Marriage means a lifelong companionship, and also a more productive life. And you will bring more spiritual souls into this world if we are ourselves spiritual as well. It’s very productive. It’s OK. Veganism is just a way of expressing our love toward all beings.

Jared: Well, Linda, calling in from Menlo Park, also asked to tell us about the importance of [veganism]. (Right.) Why is being a [vegan] important?

Master: Well, because it will minimize the heavy killing karma of this planet. “Karma” means the result of our actions. So if we act in a pure way – speech, body, and mind are pure – then the planet will be purer and will be more peaceful. And of course, it affects everyone, and the first one is ourselves.

(In what way, Master, does a person’s diet affect one’s spiritual progress?) Well, as you see, the body and the mind also affect our spiritual progress because we have to use this body and mind instrument in order to reach the higher steps. Yeah? (Yes.) Therefore, it has to be pure. For example, if you use a glass to pour the water in to drink, the glass should be clean. Otherwise, sometimes it poisons you. It’s not the water, but you drink the water from the glass, so the glass must be clean.

(Master, currently, do You call Your home base in Taiwan [Formosa]?) Yes. (I’m curious, what sort of connections do You feel or have You had with mainland China?) We also send people there to give initiation as requested. Thousands and thousands of people are initiated. Yes.

(So, You feel that…that sounds like a major change in the receptivity of mainland China, then?) Yes, yes. (Is it changing very much there?) Yes, very much changing, yes, towards better, yes. (What about Russia? Have You been to Russia?) Yes, I have. Just passed by one day, a long time ago. (Just passed by.) Yeah. Before the curtain was drawn.

(We have just a couple of minutes before we take our next break, Master. You speak very highly of both Jesus and Buddha, and You find parallels between Their teachings. I know that Christians have a belief, I suppose, that Jesus is GOD, and I know the Buddhists don’t see Buddha quite in the same way. Can You talk about that, in what ways You see Them as similar and what ways different?) OK.

You see, the Buddhist believer, also thinks, in a similar way. I mean, the true Buddhists, in a sense. Because in India they look upon a Master as GOD, and Lord Jesus and Buddha were such Masters, and in fact sometimes they worship Masters more than GOD, because they say, GOD just threw us into this suffering existence, but the Master cut asunder the chain of misery and frees us. But, the translation and the misinterpretation sometimes cause us a lot of confusion, but I see through all this to get to the essence. That is the result of enlightenment.

(Well, Master, we’re going to be taking once again a brief break) Yes. (to welcome some of our sponsors of this program, Radio 2000 Seeing Beyond. We’ll be right back with all of you after this brief break.)
