However, she decided to take her life in a different direction after filming "Tomb Raider" in Cambodia in 2001. Between 2001 and 2012, she effectively used her celebrity status and fame to bring attention to places that had been forgotten by the rest of the world. She hopes her missions create, "Awareness of the plight of these people. I think they should be commended for what they have survived, not looked down upon."
